As an election day baby, Asher felt compelled to watch the Inauguration. As you can see, President Obama and Asher made eye contact during his speech. I think they have an understanding that while Obama may be the first African-American President, Asher will most certainly be the first Latino President! :)

At Asher's two-month appointment, he weighed in at 12 lbs. and measured 23 1/2 inches long - what a big boy! :) During his first two months he also had many "major accomplishments" worth documenting - smiling in response to our smiles, cooing and "talking", sticking his tongue out at us in response to us sticking it out at him, and rolling over (a couple of times). Every time he does something new we become so ecstatic! Who knew that seeing a baby stick his tongue out could be such a monumental occasion?? Anyway, these pics are a few that we have taken since his two-month birthday...

I seemed to have misplaced my pacifier. Maybe it's in my pocket??

Asher joined us for Pastor Bojan's birthday party. I don't actually have a picture of him, but this is his wife Jamie. This is that first time we've seen her in months. She's been in Chicago performing in a play - she's on her way to stardom! :)

New Year's Eve was so much! We spent the holiday in Columbus and had a baby-free night out with Elijah's long-time friend Mac. Mai did the babysitting - thanks Mai!

Asher had so many new people to meet while he was in Georgia. It made for quite a busy schedule! Uncle Mac was definitely one of his favorites!!

We had a great night out in Atlanta with Cristin and Jay Jernigan and Jenn and Jeremy Williamson. Cristin is teaching Jay how to hold a baby in this pic! :) He did end up getting some good practice!

"Southern Christmas"

Contrary to Asher's expression in this photo, we had a wonderful Christmas in Pelham, Georgia. My brother just can't miss an opportunity for a silly photo op. The weather was absolutely gorgeous! It was in the 70's most days, and every time we stepped outside and Asher felt the warm breeze he smiled really big. I think he was just so happy that he didn't have to be bundled up in his bear suit every time we left the house like he does here!

Elijah's family made the trip from Columbus so that both of our families could be together for Asher's first Christmas. What a wonderful, memorable holiday for our boy!

The proud Grandmas! Mimi and Mai both would love to take over Chelsea's position as Asher's nanny. They were both so heartbroken when Asher had to come back to New York. :(

The look on Elijah's Mom's face in this picture really says it all. I get a little choked up when I look at it. This was her first time seeing Asher. We flew to Georgia for the holidays, and Elijah's parents insisted on picking us up from the airport even though we were going to Pelham to visit my parents first. They had been waiting almost two whole months to meet this little boy, and they couldn't wait any more. We decided to go to Columbus with them for the afternoon before driving to Pelham so that Elijah's siblings could meet him as well. Wow is Asher going to be one spoiled little baby!!

"Week Two With Our Little Boy"

This week we have really started settling into our new life with Asher. After only two weeks it is already hard to imagine life without him. We are so in love with him, and I get so excited over every new expression or sound that he makes.

Last Thursday we went back to our pediatrician for his one week check-up, and the doctor was amazed that he had gained 12 ounces in one week! I know I mentioned before how much he likes to eat! :)

His big appetite might also account for my night-time delirium as I am waking up a lot for feedings. The other night my sister was watching him so I could get a little sleep before his next feeding. She came into my room when he was ready to eat and called my name. She told me that I rolled over and stared at her blankly. I then sat up and started madly digging through the covers saying, "I can't find his head"! My sister was of course still holding him! Oh my - I'm really learning what it is like to be a first time Mom!

Also, we are all now completely oblivious to pee and poop. Asher has christened all of us with his pee-pee. His nursery wall has also been drenched, and he frequently even manages to get it on his own face. I know this sounds disgusting, but we have yet to master containing it during diaper changes. I'm sure we will soon be experts - I hope!

"Our First Week With Asher"

Our first week with Asher has been amazing! We are already so in love with him. He gets cuter every day, and he is such a sweet baby! He is pretty chill and only gets fussy when he is hungry. He loves to eat just like his Mom and Dad! :) Other than the lack of sleep, I'm also doing great. I love being a Mom, and I never could have imagined the overwhelming flood of emotions that having this little guy would bring.

We have lots of pictures to share thanks to Nanny Chelsea. On top of all of her other important duties, she has also taken on the title of photographer extraordinaire. Enjoy the pics!!!

This is Chelsea posting for Raina. The proud parents are resting & already so, so in love with their new baby boy. I'm sure Raina will want to fill everyone in on the whole birth story soon, but until then just know that she's a super hero.... no, really! I hope I have those same birthing genes!! God's hand was on them the whole time & baby & mom couldn't be healthier or happier. Elijah was also a great labor coach & was there for them every step of the way.

"Pregnancy Update - 40 Weeks Plus"

OK, so I'm officially past due. For some reason, I really didn't think that I would go past 40 weeks. However, I was wrong! I saw my doctor on Monday, and she did a procedure that she said could speed up the process but so far nothing has happened. I have also been walking a lot, eating spicy food and taking special herbs to help induce the labor; but again nothing. If I don't have the baby before tomorrow, I will go to the hospital tomorrow afternoon for a sonogram and stress test for the baby. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a few days late, but they just want to take every precaution that little Asher is still cozy in there. I think he is perfectly fine; he is just taking his time. I still feel him moving around like crazy. He probably just knows how cold it got outside this week, and he is warm and comfortable in there! The main issue is that he is just in there getting bigger at this point, and I definitely don't want that. My Mom and Dad came on Monday to witness the big event, but they actually have to leave Friday morning. Somehow I don't get the impression that Asher is feeling the pressure! :) Also, I'm hoping to use my hospital's birthing center, but I only have eligibility until Sunday. Everyone please say a little prayer that I will deliver before then. Otherwise, I still feel great. I don't feel at all uncomfortable, but I'm just so excited and ready to meet our little baby!

So, I told Raina to strike a pose like she was lifting weights & this was what she came up with............... guess that's how she got that tight bod!

"A Few More Nights Out"

Asher is taking his time in making his big debut, so I've been able to have a few more nights out with friends. Gina was in town this past weekend with her new baby Ruby. It was so great seeing her and spending some time with the girls!

Stella now knows Asher's name. She periodically points to my belly and says "Asher" or "baby".

Ruby seemed to really like Sara, but I have to say that she wasn't quite this content when I was holding her. I guess I just need a little more practice which I will definitely be getting very soon!

Our cousin Jenna and her boyfriend JT made a trip to Astoria to welcome Chelsea to the NYC!

Chelsea is settling in nicely - it is so great having her here!

Christina Powell was visiting New York with her boyfriend David a couple of weeks ago. We have been friends since high school, and it was so much fun hanging out with her again!

On October 4th, Asher attended his first Latin fiesta thrown in his honor. I hope he had fun! A big thank-you to Kristin and Stella for coming all the way from Holland to throw this shin-dig. My Mom was also in town from Georgia, and my sister came with her to finally assume her position as nanny! Elijah and I had a wonderful time, and we are so grateful to everyone for hooking Asher up with all of the baby essentials! :)

"Maternity Photo Shoot"

Last month, Elijah and I had a maternity photo shoot in Tribeca with a wonderful photographer named Heather Mosher. It was a lot of fun, and I'm excited that she will be taking Asher's debut photos as well. She put a couple of the images on her blog and gave me permission to post them on mine as well. I'm so happy I'll have this lasting documentation of my first pregnancy!

"36 Weeks"

Well, usually I like attending the special events that my company sponsors, but when you are eight months pregnant it's not quite as fun! My back and my feet were killing me by the end of the night! Otherwise, I'm still feeling great and enjoying these last weeks of pregnancy. Now that I'm almost there, I'll share with you the latest updates and things I've learned along the way...

- Most of my expectations about pregnancy weren't exactly realistic.

- I haven't "forgotten" the morning sickness like people told me I would.

- Feeling the baby move in your belly is the most amazing experience!

- Everyone has guessed that I'm having a boy including clients, construction workers and even a homeless guy! Not one person has looked at me and guessed I'm having a girl - very interesting!

- I've put on twenty pounds so far, but I've tried to go with the flow in that area. I never knew that the weight gain could be so sporadic. I put on 7 1/2 pounds one month and actually lost 2 pounds another!

- My food cravings have changed drastically from month to month - there was a Spaghetti-O phase, a chips and salsa phase, a Pop-tart phase and a major Taco Bell bean burrito phase.

- According to my doctor's 2-second stomach evaluation, Asher should be about 7 1/2 pounds at delivery - we'll see!

- I was told that Asher is in the correct position for natural childbirth with his head down. His heartbeat is great, and his growth is right on schedule.

-We probably have a couple of weeks left before the big day, but we'll keep you up to date!!!

"4 Years Ago"

On September 18th, 2004 Elijah and I got married at a vineyard in Dahlonega, Georgia. I can't believe that four years have gone by so fast! I loved our wedding, and it is so nice thinking back to that special day.

We decided to take one last mini-vacation to celebrate our anniversary before Asher's big arrival. We took a trip out to the Northfork, stayed at a cute little inn and had fun attending Greenport's annual fall festival.

My coworkers and I decided to throw a surprise baby shower for Catherine. She and her husband Rob are adopting two babies from Taiwan - a boy and a girl. We have essentially gone through our "pregnancies" together. She found out that she was getting the babies the week before I found out that I was expecting. Now she is going to pick them up only weeks before I will be delivering. It has been so much fun sharing this exciting time with her, and I know she is going to be a wonderful Mom!

"Family Visits"

After we got back from all of our travels, we had some traveling visitors of our own. It was so much fun having my Uncle Bo, his wife Lisa, and their girls Alayna and Alexandra staying with us for a week.

I took a trip with them to the Bronx Zoo. It was my first time there, and it was really amazing. Turtle Power!

"30 Weeks"

I reached the 30-Week mark while on vacation. Therefore, my sister said that it was only appropriate that this be my progression pic. I really can't believe that I'm 75% of the way there. We are really getting excited now, and the whole experience seems so much more real. The baby is moving around like crazy, and I'm constantly aware of him being with me. Everyone I meet asks about my bulging belly, and I can finally reply with sincerity, "I feel great"!

After the baby shower, we drove down to Panama City with our families for a few days of rest and relaxation. It was a much needed escape from the city life, not to mention a wonderful bonding time with la familia!

The shower took place at my Granny and Poppy's house. They have been married for over fifty years and have five children and twelve grandchildren. Now, they are going to be great-grandparents!

Elijah and I went to have a special 3D sonogram done, and it was so much fun to get an up-close and personal look at our little baby! He was moving all around, and he seemed pretty comfortable in there. He was making sucking motions with his mouth and nuzzling his face into his hands. It was so amazing and so cute! I definitely feel like I know him a little better now. Also, I think I see a resemblance to Elijah. I hope you enjoy these!

Recently, we have been doing a little shopping for Asher, and we came across this T-shirt that reminded us of an infamous jog that Elijah took with my Dad on one of our past family vacations. Elijah has told many stories about the "Pier to Pier" run that proved to be a little more challenging than they could have imagined. This shirt should fit Asher in time for next year's family vacation, and I'm sure he'll be ready to run "Pier to Pier" with the boys (maybe strapped to Elijah's back)!

The DeGeus family moved to Holland today! :( A few weeks ago, before their relocation to an enitrely different CONTINENT, we decided to take one last trip together to Maine.

It was very relaxing there. Elijah and I really enjoyed having a little time away from the city.

"4th of July Picnic"

On the 4th of July, Elijah and I went to a picnic in Astoria Park. Elijah made fun of me for wearing our country's colors, but I told him that I was just preparing for motherhood. Mothers are of course required to go all out for every holiday and celebrate every cheesy tradition!

This picnic was also a farewell for the Kolmetz family. We are very sad that they are moving to Florida and taking the adorable Cooper Riley away from us. :( Yes, we'll miss Mom and Dad too!

The adorable Sellers McKay Newman was born in March, and I have been meaning to post her debut pictures for quite some time now. Many of you probably know my long-time friends Chris and Emily "Sellers" Newman. They are the proud parents! Although I haven't met her yet, I already love her! "24 Weeks"

Well, the tummy is getting bigger, bigger and bigger! There is no doubt that I "look" pregnant now. One of the biggest benefits is getting seats offered to you on the subway, and everyone wants to carry things for you. I'm also feeling a lot better. If I eat every couple of hours, the nausea is kept to a minimum. 16 weeks to go until our little Asher arrives, and we can't wait!!!

On June 30th, Astoria Park had a little pre-4th of July fireworks display. We had a lot of fun, and how convenient that it was right outside our door!

After passing the midpoint of my pregnancy, it became very obvious that I needed to make the switch to maternity wear. Kristin helped me pick out my new wardrobe at Destination Maternity. We had a great time, and now getting dressed is much easier. Plus, everything is sooo comfortable! Once you delve into the world of elastic waistbands, I don't see how you can ever go back!!

Shopping sprees are fun! :)

"My Birthday - Hampton Style"

No, this is not where we stayed! This is just one of the MANY mansions we saw while we were there. Seeing these houses is really one of the main attractions in the Hamptons.

We decided to spend my birthday in Southampton because Elijah "won" this trip at the silent auction that was part of the ARTrageous event that we attended. It was a wonderful birthday getaway!

Two days in a row we rented bikes. It was so much fun cruising around the neighborhood looking at all of the beautiful houses and gorgeous scenery. This was my favorite part of the trip!

I've decided that it is time to start showing off my belly, so you will see a lot more pictures like this one from now on!

Memorial Day was gorgeous! Elijah and I live right on Astoria Park which is wonderful during the spring and summer. We spent a lot of time hanging out there Memorial weekend. This is the Manhattan view from the park.

On May 22nd, Elijah and I attended the ARTrageous charity event at Cipriani Wall Street. Chopard donated a pendant for their live auciton. It was great to have a nice date night together! Also, if you are a fan of the "Top Chef" show, I was seated next to Tom Colicchio (the head judge). I have actually never seen the show, but I was still excited because my good friend's boyfriend is currently auditioning for the next season. Good luck Francis!

"Eighteen Weeks"

Whoa belly! Well, the expansion continues and the belly is definitely starting to show. I've noticed a big change over the last week. (This picture was taken right after I got out of the shower - so please ignore the wet hair look!)

I was promised by many that the morning sickness would subside at about sixteen weeks. However, this has not really been the case with me. I will admit that the first four weeks of sickness were by far the worst, but I definitely still suffer with it! :( However, I find myself getting more and more excited about the pregnancy now that I'm actually starting to look like a pregnant person. Also, we should be finding out the sex soon! We tried to find out at fifteen weeks, but the baby was kneeling. Elijah said that the baby was praying and could not be interrupted! Hopefully, at our next appointment the baby will be more cooperative!

Being pregnant has made me feel a little homesick. So the first weekend of May I decided to take a trip down to Georgia. I had a relaxing time hanging out with my family. This picture is with my brother Peyton and sister Chelsea. For those of you who don't know, Chelsea will soon be a New Yorker. She is going to be our nanny! I can't wait for all of you here to meet her - she is the best! :)

What a coincidence! On the way home from Colombia, we ran into my Uncle Bo, his wife Lisa and their girls Alayna and Alexandra in the airport in Miami. They were coming back from a trip to Jamaica. It was so great to catch up with them!

On April 5th, Elijah and I took a trip to Colombia. Both of Elijah's parents are from the coastal town of Barranquilla and many of their family members still reside there. It was my first time traveling to Colombia, and it was so wonderful to meet his grandmother and many other relatives. It was also nice that Elijah's mom, brother and sister all traveled from Georgia to meet us there for the week. We had an amazing time! Enjoy the pictures!

On top of seeing some physical changes, I have definitely been feeling pregnant. Since week seven I have been extremely nauseous! I also don't have as much energy, and I always feel like taking a nap in the afternoon. Unfortunately, since I work full-time that is usually not an option!

There is no room for debate with this pregnancy test. When you see the word "pregnant", the result is obvious. On February 17th, we discovered that we were definitely expecting! Hooray!!

Before we found out about the pregnancy, we had planned a trip home and a mini-family reunion for Sunday, Febrary 17th. How perfect! What a blessing to have both of our families together on the same day to surprise them with the news! We got everyone together and made them close their eyes and hold out their hands. We placed a sugar cookie in each person's hand with the name that the baby would call them written in icing. On the count of three, everyone opened their eyes and looked at their cookies. It was so much fun to watch our family members' faces as they realized what we were announcing!
